WEBINAR “Study in Taiwan”: Speakers Directly from Universities in Taiwan

As a trusted partner of Chang Gung University, the No. 2 private university in Taiwan, GROW had the opportunity to invite professors as speakers for a webinar in December 2024 and January 2025. This “Study in Taiwan” webinar, organized by GROW, provided in-depth discussions about various study programs at Chang Gung University, admission processes, available scholarships, and a detailed presentation on Mechanical Engineering—one of the university’s flagship programs highly recommended for students seeking a Bachelor’s degree.

The first session of the “Study in Taiwan” webinar featured Professor Chang Heng Yu, a professor in the Department of Digital Financial Technology and a supervisor at the Office of International Affairs (OIA). He shared insights about Chang Gung University, which offers 1,500 courses across four colleges. Indonesian students rank sixth in number at this university, and the institution is eager to welcome more Indonesian students to study there.

The enthusiasm from both students and parents in the webinar was remarkable, generating many questions. The most frequently asked topics included student life in Taiwan, scholarship opportunities, and part-time work options. Chang Gung University provides substantial scholarship opportunities for all its students, covering government-funded and university-funded scholarships from the undergraduate to PhD levels. Moreover, the university offers world-class facilities for Indonesian students, including state-of-the-art laboratories, well-equipped dormitories with a conducive learning environment, and even on-campus part-time job opportunities.

The webinar also highlighted detailed information about one of its special programs—Mechanical Engineering. This undergraduate science program is fully taught in English, a unique offering as most universities deliver this program in Mandarin. By providing English as the medium of instruction, international students can have an easier learning experience. The strength and appeal of Chang Gung University’s Mechanical Engineering program made it the focus of two consecutive webinar sessions, featuring Professor Shen Chia Hsuan from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, along with an Indonesian student currently studying at the university.

A special guest speaker, an Indonesian student currently in his third year at Chang Gung University, shared his experience studying Mechanical Engineering. One fascinating fact is that he graduated from a vocational high school (SMK) in Indonesia with a major in chemical engineering but was able to pursue a completely different field in Taiwan. Despite the change, he still secured a research assistant position at the university. Seizing this golden opportunity, he aspires to continue his studies to the Master’s level.
